# MessagePack
MessagePack is an efficient binary serialization format. It lets you exchange data among multiple languages like JSON. But it's faster and smaller. Small integers are encoded into a single byte, and typical short strings require only one extra byte in addition to the strings themselves.

## Serialization
The library uses the following mapping from JSON values types to MessagePack types according to the MessagePack specification:

Complete mapping
The mapping is **complete** in the sense that any JSON value type can be converted to a MessagePack value.
Any MessagePack output created by `to_msgpack` can be successfully parsed by `from_msgpack`.
Size constraints
The following values can **not** be converted to a MessagePack value:
- strings with more than 4294967295 bytes
- byte strings with more than 4294967295 bytes
- arrays with more than 4294967295 elements
- objects with more than 4294967295 elements
NaN/infinity handling
`NaN`, `Infinity`, and `-Infinity` are serialized as a MessagePack float 32 (type 0xCA, 5 bytes total), regardless of magnitude, in contrast to the [dump](https://json.nlohmann.me/api/basic_json/dump/index.md) function which serializes NaN or Infinity to `null`.
Note
Prior to version 3.13.0, NaN and Infinity were instead serialized as a MessagePack float 64 (type 0xCB, 9 bytes total), because the check used to select the smaller float 32 encoding compared magnitudes with NaN, which is always `false` and caused the float 32 path to be skipped.
