Niels Lohmann 3e031b06a5 Use standard library helpers where available, with C++11 fallbacks (#5876)
* Use standard library helpers where available, with C++11 fallbacks

Add detail helpers that call the standard library function when the
library provides it (checked with the __cpp_lib_* feature-test macros, so
no new ABI-tag macros) and a C++11 implementation otherwise:

- detail::clamp (std::clamp): by value, so that static constexpr members
need no out-of-line definition before C++17; used in json_view's dump()
buffer sizing, where step() can now be a static constexpr member.
- detail::bit_cast (std::bit_cast): replaces dtoa_impl::reinterpret_bits
and the memcpy bit copies in the number parser, to_chars, the json_view
  serializer, and binary_writer::to_char_type.
- detail::byteswap (std::byteswap): one implementation instead of the
binary writer's own byte_swap() overloads and the bswap chain in
  to_chars' store_msb_first().
- count_leading_zeros/count_trailing_zeros: two 32-bit _BitScanReverse/
_BitScanForward calls for MSVC x86/ARM32 instead of the loop, and
  std::countl_zero/countr_zero for compilers without builtins.
- conjunction, disjunction, negation, bool_constant, and uncvref_t map to
  their std counterparts in C++17/C++20.

Builtins and intrinsics stay ahead of the <bit> functions, as MSVC's
std::countl_zero checks for LZCNT at run time unless AVX2 is enabled.

The generated code is unchanged with Clang (C++11/20/23, arm64 and
x86-64) and GCC 16 for parsing, dumping, and the binary formats. The
binary reader keeps its own byte_swap() and the writer its memcpy calls:
the smaller code from detail::byteswap/std::bit_cast there made GCC 16
inline get_number()/write_number() differently, which slowed reading by
10-18 % and writing by about 1 %.

* Name the target byte order once (JSON_LITTLE_ENDIAN_TARGET, JSON_BIG_ENDIAN_TARGET)

to_chars.hpp and bit_ops.hpp repeated the long __BYTE_ORDER__/_MSC_VER
conditions; macro_scope.hpp now defines them once (undefined again in
macro_unscope.hpp).

Niels Lohmann e9970066c5 Scan strings with SSE2, SSSE3, or NEON (#5853)
* Scan strings with SSE2, SSSE3, or NEON

The string fast path found the end of a run of plain characters 8 bytes at
a time (SWAR) and validated non-ASCII text one sequence at a time, calling
validate_one_utf8() out of line for each.

The vector code of json_view's scanner, in the new shared header
detail/input/simd_scan.hpp, now does both 16 bytes at a time: SSE2 finds
the end of a run on x86-64, and the UTF-8 check of Keiser and Lemire runs
with NEON on AArch64 and with SSSE3 on x86-64. SSSE3 is not part of x86-64,
so the check is compiled for it with a function attribute and used when the
CPU has it (cached in a constant-initialized atomic), else the scalar check;
code compiled with -mssse3 skips the CPU check. The first word of a run is
still checked with SWAR (the first four with NEON, where a vector mask
costs more), as most keys and short values end there, and the scalar
helpers are always inlined. On anything else, the scalar code is unchanged.

The new macro JSON_NO_SIMD selects the portable code everywhere, including
the SSE2/NEON digit formatting of the floating-point writer. The lexer tests
now also run with JSON_NO_SIMD and, on x86-64, with -mssse3, and a new test
places every byte that ends a run at each offset across several 16-byte
blocks, after ASCII and after CJK text.

* Keep the string scan from slowing down short strings and dump() on Arm

Three benchmarks were 7-9% slower than develop on Apple M1 (Apple Clang,
-O3 -flto): Accept/jeopardy, Dump/citm_catalog, and Dump/jeopardy.

- dump(): the serializer passes a string without its closing quote, so
plain_run_end() ran out of input and called the out-of-line NEON loop
for every string, with fewer than 16 bytes left. The loop is now only
called for 16 bytes or more.
- accept(): no string of jeopardy.json reaches the vector UTF-8 check,
yet compiling it into the lexer's scan function made it 5% slower: the
function runs once per token and now saved more registers and kept a
stack slot. lexer_string_bulk_run() checks the first four words inline
and continues out of line, and the serializer keeps string_bulk_run()
  inline, which is faster there.
- The byte that ends a run is read from the scanned buffer instead of
through get(), which Apple Clang merged with the other get() calls that
load the read position again right after it was stored (3%).

* Define string_bulk_run_from() only where lexer_string_bulk_run() calls it

With NEON and simdutf in C++17, lexer_string_bulk_run() takes the
string_bulk_run() path, so the out-of-line helper was unused.

Signed-off-by: Niels Lohmann <mail@nlohmann.me>

* Do not dispatch the SSSE3 string scan with GCC's C++20 modules

GCC does not keep the target("ssse3") attribute on functions it reads
back from a module interface, so the module build (ci_module_cpp20,
gcc:latest) rejected the intrinsics in vector_utf8_run() with "needs isa
option -mssse3". With __cpp_modules, GCC now uses the portable UTF-8 check
like other compilers without the target attribute; the SSE2 scan stays,
and -mssse3 or more still compiles the SSSE3 check directly. Clang is not
affected.

* Include <cpuid.h> only once when json.hpp and json_view.hpp are both used

The SSSE3 dispatch of the string scan and the one of json_view each
include <cpuid.h>. Before GCC 11 the header has no include guard, so a
translation unit that includes both headers fails with GCC 10:
"redefinition of 'unsigned int __get_cpuid_max(unsigned int, unsigned int*)'".
Guard both includes with NLOHMANN_JSON_CPUID_INCLUDED.

Signed-off-by: Niels Lohmann <mail@nlohmann.me>

* Add an ABI tag for JSON_NO_SIMD

JSON_NO_SIMD selects between two definitions of the internal scanning and
formatting functions. Like JSON_VIEW_NO_SIMD (_vns), it now appends _ns to
the inline namespace, so translation units built with and without it can
be linked into one program without ODR violations.

Niels Lohmann 4155e2938f Write json_view's dump() without a call or conversion per token (#5633)
* Write json_view's dump() without a call or conversion per token

The default dump() (no indentation, no ensure_ascii) gets its own
writer that makes the same walk and produces the same output:

- the write position stays in a local variable instead of a
member, so the compiler keeps it in a register across stores
  through aliasing char pointers;
- strings and number tokens are copied with fixed-size 32-byte
moves wherever enough source bytes remain, instead of one
  memcpy call per token;
- the innermost open container lives in local variables; a stack
  that starts as a local array of 32 entries holds the rest;
- unedited documents are walked through the node array in order,
and integer tokens are read from the source directly.

On top of that, float tokens of at most 15 significant digits are
written straight from their digits via zmij::to_shortest() and
write_shortest(), without converting to a double and back: such
decimals are farther apart than a double's rounding interval, so
the token's digits are the double's shortest digits. Tokens of
16+ digits, or edited values, still go through decimal_to_float().
The view's own NEON write_decimal() is removed in favor of the
shared writer, and the dump output now grows in 64 KiB steps
instead of being resized to its estimate at once.

* Fix out-of-bounds read when dumping a float token of an unchecked image

A float node of an image loaded with image_check::bounds can hold a
token whose bytes are not digits, so its value need not have the digit
count recorded in the node. write_double_at() passed that count to
write_short_decimal(), which indexes its table of powers of ten by it:
an assertion failure in debug builds, an out-of-bounds read in release
builds. Use the counted overload only if the value has exactly that many
digits, otherwise count them.

dump instantiates more code for editable documents, so its test cases "views
and values", "deeply nested values", "pointers below a null value", and
"strings of other documents are checked" move into
unit-json_view_edit_values.cpp. The helper exception_of_call() that both
files use moves into json_view_test_helpers.hpp.

Niels Lohmann 91a7a94cc6 Write doubles with the shortest digits (Żmij), digits in registers (#5634)
* Write doubles with the shortest digits (Żmij), digits in registers

Write doubles with the conversion of Zmij by Victor Zverovich (MIT),
ported to C++11 (detail/conversions/zmij.hpp). It finds the
shortest decimal that reads back as the same double, and the
closest one if there are several. Grisu2, used until now, is fast
but not always shortest: it sometimes writes a 17th digit where 16
suffice, or a last digit that is not the closest. The layout is
unchanged (1.5, 100.0, 1e+100, -0.0); float keeps Grisu2.

Digits are converted eight at a time with the BCD conversion of
Xiang JunBo, as in Zmij, and written with one byte swap per eight
digits and fixed-size moves instead of per-digit loops. Leading and
trailing zeros are counted from those bytes. to_chars() uses a
local buffer when the caller's is shorter than the 41 bytes this
may write. The powers of ten come from the number-parsing table,
adjusted where it holds values rounded up, and extended with Zmij's
compressed tables beyond 10^308.

write_shortest() converts its 16 digits in one vector register
(SSE2 on x86-64, NEON on 64-bit Arm, both baseline) and inserts the
decimal point inside the register, avoiding a store-forwarding
stall that cost about 25% of the time to write a double. dump()
writes floats and integers straight into the serializer's write
buffer instead of copying them from a member buffer, and small
integers eight digits at a time. read_eight_bytes() and
parse_eight_digits() are marked always-inline, which GCC had been
calling out of line in the number-parsing loops.

Of one million random doubles, about 0.14% are now written with
different digits, always to a value that still reads back as the
same double.

* Fix CI findings in the Zmij writer and its tests

- bit_ops.hpp: include macro_scope.hpp (JSON_HEDLEY_ALWAYS_INLINE); fixes IWYU
- to_chars.hpp: C4100 for the unused parameter in release builds, clang-tidy
sign comparison, cpplint runtime/int, GCC -Wstrict-overflow (unsigned abs)
- unit-to_chars.cpp: parse with the library instead of strtod (MinGW's strtod
rounds some 16/17 digit inputs wrongly); no floating-point std::to_chars
  with icpc

Signed-off-by: Niels Lohmann <mail@nlohmann.me>

* Select the Zmij conversion by a trait, not by the double overload

The non-template overloads for double asserted binary64 doubles wherever json.hpp was included, so the library no longer compiled where double is not IEEE 754 binary64 (AVR, -fshort-double). A trait now picks Zmij for any binary64 type, including a long double of that format (MSVC, Apple Arm), and Grisu2 for the others. Remove the unused write_short_decimal, powers_of_ten_16, zmij::decimal, zmij::to_decimal, and shortest_digits(double).

Niels Lohmann d6660cf718 Route hand-rolled diagnostic pragmas through Hedley (#5485)
* Route hand-rolled diagnostic pragmas through Hedley

Several places in the library hand-roll compiler diagnostic suppression
with raw `#pragma`/`#ifdef __GNUC__`/`#ifdef __clang__` guards instead of
using the Hedley primitives already bundled and used elsewhere
(JSON_HEDLEY_DIAGNOSTIC_PUSH/POP, JSON_HEDLEY_PRAGMA, ...). Converted six
of the seven listed push/pop pairs to use those primitives instead of
raw `#pragma GCC diagnostic`/`#pragma clang diagnostic` text:

- include/nlohmann/json.hpp (~3770, ~3863): -Wfloat-equal
- include/nlohmann/detail/conversions/to_chars.hpp (~1078): -Wfloat-equal
- include/nlohmann/detail/output/binary_writer.hpp (~1844): -Wfloat-equal
- include/nlohmann/detail/iterators/iteration_proxy.hpp (~211): -Wmismatched-tags
- include/nlohmann/detail/exceptions.hpp (~36): -Wweak-vtables

iteration_proxy.hpp did not previously include macro_scope.hpp itself
(it only compiled because some other header included earlier in
json.hpp happened to pull macro_scope.hpp in first); it now includes it
directly like the other detail headers that use Hedley macros, so it is
self-contained.

Each push/pop pair now uses JSON_HEDLEY_DIAGNOSTIC_PUSH/POP
unconditionally (a no-op on compilers that don't need it) and wraps the
actual `#pragma ... diagnostic ignored` text in JSON_HEDLEY_PRAGMA so it
goes through Hedley's _Pragma()-based emission instead of a raw #pragma
line, while keeping the original `#ifdef __GNUC__` / `#if
defined(__clang__)` guard around the ignored-pragma itself.

Deviation from the issue's suggested transformation: the issue's example
replaces the `#ifdef __GNUC__` guard with `#if
JSON_HEDLEY_HAS_WARNING("-Wfloat-equal")`. JSON_HEDLEY_HAS_WARNING is
implemented purely via Clang's `__has_warning` builtin and evaluates to
0 on real GCC (`#define JSON_HEDLEY_HAS_WARNING(warning) (0)` when
`__has_warning` is not defined), so adopting it verbatim would silently
stop suppressing -Wfloat-equal on GCC -- a real regression, not just a
style change. The existing `#ifdef __GNUC__` / `#if defined(__clang__)`
guards were kept for the ignored-pragma to stay behavior-preserving, and
only the push/pop/pragma-emission mechanism was routed through Hedley.

Two of the seven locations from the issue (the -Wignored-attributes
push at the very top of json.hpp and its matching pop after
`#include <nlohmann/detail/macro_unscope.hpp>`) were intentionally left
unconverted:
- The push, at the very top of json.hpp, runs before
`detail/macro_scope.hpp` (and therefore hedley.hpp) has been included
anywhere in the translation unit, so JSON_HEDLEY_DIAGNOSTIC_PUSH is not
  yet defined at that point.
- The pop runs after `macro_unscope.hpp`, which -- via hedley_undef.hpp
-- has already #undef'd every JSON_HEDLEY_* macro (by design, see
#5408) precisely so they don't leak to users, so JSON_HEDLEY_DIAGNOSTIC_POP
is no longer defined by the time the pop is reached either.
Making this one pair work would require either hoisting the ~2000
line vendored hedley.hpp to the very top of the amalgamated single
header (a much bigger structural change to single_include than a pure
mechanism swap) or special-casing this one pop ahead of the general
macro cleanup. Both are riskier than the mechanical, behavior-preserving
change requested, so this pair was left as-is.

## Validation

- Compiled include/nlohmann/json.hpp and single_include/nlohmann/json.hpp
  with `-Wall -Wextra -Wfloat-equal -Wmismatched-tags -Wweak-vtables`
(clang, which self-identifies as __GNUC__ too): no warnings, same as
  before the change.
- Compiled and ran tests/src/unit-to_chars.cpp, unit-conversions.cpp,
  unit-iterators1.cpp, unit-iterators2.cpp, and unit-class_parser.cpp
against the fixed include/: all pass.
- Compiled unit-msgpack.cpp, unit-bjdata.cpp, and unit-ubjson.cpp (which
  exercise binary_writer.hpp's write_compact_float extensively): all
compile cleanly; the vast majority of assertions pass (the only
failures are pre-existing environment issues unrelated to this change
-- missing generated test-data files, not code correctness).
- Ran `make amalgamate`; the single_include diff is limited to exactly
the lines touched in include/, with no unrelated reordering.
- No real (non-Apple) GCC was available in this environment to test
directly; the `_Pragma("GCC diagnostic ...")` text emitted by
JSON_HEDLEY_PRAGMA is byte-identical to the prior `#pragma GCC
diagnostic ...` text, and the `#ifdef __GNUC__` guard is unchanged, so
GCC's behavior is expected to be identical. CI covers the GCC matrix.

This PR is stacked on top of #5475 (issue-5408-hedley-undef-leak) since
both touch the same files; only the last commit here is new.

Fixes #5409.

* Guard JSON_HEDLEY_DIAGNOSTIC_PUSH/POP with the same compiler check as the pragma they bracket

Addresses review feedback from @gregmarr on PR #5485: the push/pop calls
were unconditional, so compilers other than the one the ignored-pragma
targets (e.g. MSVC, or GCC where the pair only applies under __clang__)
now did a needless push/pop with nothing suppressed in between. Move the
existing #ifdef __GNUC__ / #if defined(__clang__) guard to also cover the
push/pop, restoring the original zero-overhead behavior on other compilers
while still emitting the pragma itself through Hedley.
